Tobacco Prevention
Earth Day and American Lung Association Month of Action
Each April, we celebrate Earth Day and recognize the importance of protecting our environment, including reducing waste from tobacco and nicotine products like cigarette butts and vape devices.
In past years, the East Central Alliance for Nicotine Prevention Coalition's local FACT youth groups (peer to peer nicotine prevention groups) have led cleanup efforts to raise awareness and keep communities clean.
This year, the American Lung Association’s Month of Action is supporting these efforts by providing tools and resources to help youth organize nicotine product cleanups. Youth groups that participate will receive numerous items, such as, an action kit with needed supplies, a short education presentation, communication tools and suggested messaging, and more!
This is a great opportunity for youth to get involved, give back, and learn about the environmental impact of nicotine products.
No Menthol Sunday: Raising Awareness About Menthol Tobacco
|
The East Central Alliance for Nicotine Prevention is proud to recognize No Menthol Sunday this spring, marking its third year of participation.
Coalition members will be at the Downtown Fond du Lac Farmer's Market on Saturday, May 16 to share education and resources with the community.
No Menthol Sunday is a national awareness day, officially observed on May 17th this year, focused on the health risks and targeted marketing of menthol tobacco products.
Each year, faith and community partners help raise awareness and connect individuals to prevention and cessation resources.

Save a Smile Dental Program
The Fond du Lac County Save a Smile Dental program and Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) program have started a new initiative within the Health Department, bringing dental care directly into WIC appointments. Families can receive dental assessments and fluoride varnish treatments right where they already access trusted services.
Fluoride varnish is a safe, quick application that helps strengthen tooth enamel and prevent cavities, an important step in protecting children's oral health early on.
By integrating dental services into WIC visits, we’re helping: ✔️ Identify oral health concerns early ✔️ Reduce barriers like transportation, cost, and scheduling ✔️ Connect families to follow-up care when needed ✔️ Promote lifelong healthy habits
This innovative approach ensures more children get the preventive care they need for healthy smiles and healthier futures.
