Car Seat Safety

Car seats and booster seats provide protection for infants and children in a crash, yet car crashes are a leading cause of death for children ages 1 to 13. It's important to choose the right seat and use it correctly every time your child is in the car.

Emergency Supply Kit for your Car

One of the most important actions all drivers need to do this winter is prepare their vehicle with an emergency supply kit.

No matter the destination, all motorists need to be ready if something goes wrong.

In an emergency, a survival kit is extremely helpful and could save your life along with the lives of your passengers.

The good news about an emergency supply kit you don’t need tons of gear and most items you may already have. 

Public Health Nursing

There’s more than holiday cheer spreading in Fond du Lac County this time of year... Take the time to wash your hands for at least 20 seconds to stay healthy!  Another important way to protect yourself and your loved ones from respiratory illness and other diseases is by staying up to date on recommended vaccines.

Lead Poisoning Prevention

A little lead can cause BIG problems, act early! Wisconsin Department of Health Services recommends that all children get tested for lead at ages 1 and 2 or between 3-5 years of age if they have never been tested before.

Environmental Health

During the month of January, FCHD is offering HALF OFF short-term radon test kits. If you return your packaged and labeled test to the Health Department on one of the dates listed below, you will receive free shipping! Come visit us at the Health Department on the 3rd floor of the City/County building from 8am-4pm to purchase one for just $5.

Women, Infants, and Children (WIC)

This year’s theme is “Discover the Power of Nutrition”. Foods that we eat bring people together, help to form lasting memories and influence our health. Cooking and sharing a meal allows for deeper conversations surrounding where our foods come from, how they are prepared and allows for transfer of knowledge and culture from one generation to the next. Nutrition and culture are large parts of the WIC Program as nutritious foods and nutrition education are 2 of the 4 main pillars of WIC. Foods provided to WIC families are set by USDA and backed by science to enhance nutritional status and allow for optimal growth and development. Participating WIC families are able to receive free access to Registered Dietitian Nutritionists (RDNs) and Nutrition and Dietetics Technicians, Registered (NDTRs) and Nutrition Educators who can help families learn more about nutrition and how everyday nutrition choices impact our health over the lifespan.
