Hello DVR Service Providers,
Over the weekend you may have heard that U.S. Department of Education (ED) staff received Reduction in Force (RIF) notices. This is an evolving situation, but we wanted to share with you what we have heard at this time. The ED's Office of Special Education and Rehabilitative Services (OSERS), which includes the Rehabilitation Services Agency (RSA), the agency that administers DWD's vocational rehabilitation program, has been impacted and many of the staff at RSA have reportedly received a RIF, purportedly stating that their last day could be December 9th. The only RSA staff as of now that we have heard that were not impacted would be their senior leadership and those administrative staff that report to the Acting RSA Commissioner.
At this time, we do not have any additional information on the RIFs or the future of the administration of the program at the federal level as most ED staff continue to be on furlough during the shutdown.
This does not change that VR is a mandatory program and we expect to receive our FY26 funding after the shutdown ends. We have also continued to receive payments for our reimbursement requests submitted to RSA for grant awards from prior years.
We will keep you updated as we learn more.
Thank you,
Meredith
