Today Governor
Walker signed into law 2017 Wisconsin Act 240. It eliminates the Building
Inspector Review Board and the Contractor Certification Council, and transfers
their duties to the Uniform Dwelling Code Council. The Uniform Dwelling Code
Council, when reviewing a complaint concerning possible incompetent negligent,
or unethical conduct by building inspectors, the Uniform Dwelling Code Council
may recommend suspension of an inspector’s certification, in addition to
revocation of the certification.
The Act also adds a
new provision that specifies person's with religious beliefs and the
established tenets or teachings of the religious sect may apply for a waiver
from certain building code requirements imposed under any provision of ch. 101
or 145 applicable inside one- and 2-family dwellings.
