Application period opens Feb. 2
MADISON — The Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction today announced an updated list of the private schools participating in the state’s three Private School Choice Programs, as the application period for parents/guardians to apply for their students for the 2026-27 school year opens Feb. 2, 2026.
The state’s three Private School Choice Programs allow eligible students to attend a participating private school in K4 through 12th grade. The private school, on behalf of the student’s parent/guardian, receives a state aid payment for each eligible student. An interactive map showing projected impacts the Private School Choice Programs will have on school districts’ state aid for the 2025-26 school year can be found on the DPI’s website.
All eligible applications received during an application period are included in the random selection if more students apply than there are spaces available at a given school. Applications are not accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis.
There are 417 private schools and school systems registered to participate in the Private School Choice Programs for the 2026-27 school year. The Wisconsin Parental Choice Program, which allows students residing outside of the city of Milwaukee and Racine Unified School District to participate, has 377 private schools and school systems registered for the 2026-27 school year. The Milwaukee Parental Choice Program, which requires students to reside in the city of Milwaukee, has 141 private schools registered for the 2026-27 school year. The Racine Parental Choice Program, which requires students to reside in the Racine Unified School District, has 40 private schools registered for the 2026-27 school year. Schools may participate in multiple parental choice programs.
