Wisconsin DMV continues to develop the relaunches of the Driver Education Grant program with funding approved in the 2025-2027 biennial budget. Portions of this funding have begun to be released in a quarterly fashion. The next Quarterly launch will be on October 27th, 2025.
The Driver Education Grant Program provides grants to cover driver education tuition costs for 30 hours of classroom coursework, six hours of observation, and six hours of behind-the-wheel training for eligible students on a first-come, first-served basis. Swho qualify for free or reduced lunch through the National School Lunch Program, have not previously held a driver’s license, and who are between 14.5 and 19 years old may apply for the Driver Education Grant Program.
Students, parents, and all those who may be interested in a notification closer to the time of the launch can sign up with their email at: Wisconsin Department of Transportation Driver Education Grant Program.
As a reminder, the grant program is not to be used as a refund program. If the student/parent has made partial payments, a refund will not be issued in place of payment from the grant. Grants will also not be issued to cover remaining balances. If a student paid for classroom but not behind the wheel, they may use the behind the wheel coupon only.
If you are currently enrolled to receive Driver Education Grant funding, there are no additional steps needed to be able to redeem coupons. If you are not enrolled as a vendor in the Driver Education Grant program, unsure of your status or have any other additional questions, please reach out to us at: dotdegrantprogram@dot.wi.gov.
