Designing Learning Environments to Build Strong Math Identities - Part 3

The last two editions of Math Ed Matters have shared video learning opportunities about Aligning the Education System and the Brain’s Natural System for Learning (Part 1) and Context Matters (Part 2). The third and final video in this series is focused on students. Watch Leisl McConchie's Video Series - Part 3 to learn what she means when she says, “Of course mathematical skills that students bring matters … What matters more is their state [of mind]”.

WI Updating WMELS

Do you support children birth - first grade? If so, complete a 15-minute survey to help shape what will be included in future updates to our state’s early learning and development guidelines (ELDGs), including how mathematics shows up and connects with our 2021 Standards for Mathematics. Go to https://dcf.wisconsin.gov/eldg to complete the survey yourself or share this link with families, PreK and K-1 educators, early childhood special eduction staff, higher-ed/professional learning staff, or anyone who is interested. In 2025 and beyond, WI Department of Children and Families (DCF) and its state partner agencies are reviewing  the Wisconsin Model Early Learning Standards (WMELS). The entire process will consider user feedback, new research in the field, and promising innovations from other states. The survey is open now through October 24th. Make your voice heard!

Join Wisconsin Math Council (WMC) for a dynamic professional learning series beginning on October 22 and led by Ann Elise Record. The series is designed to deepen educators’ understanding of mathematical fluency and enhance instructional practices across grade levels. Mathematical Proficiency for Every Student (MPES) Conference, Milwaukee Cultivating Inclusive Mathematics Instruction

Cultivating Inclusive Mathematics Instruction is the theme of WMC’s fall MPES Conference taking place in Milwaukee. This conference will empower educators to create inclusive mathematics classrooms by exploring the teacher’s role in supporting diverse learners, identifying strategies that honor students’ unique mathematical thinking, and discovering actionable ways to collaborate and leverage collective expertise for meaningful instructional impact. Fab Lab Grant Opportunity

The Fabrication Laboratory Grant Program, sponsored by the WI Economic Development Corporation, has a continuous application process to support hands-on STEAM education by assisting Wisconsin public school districts with purchases of equipment used for instructional and educational purposes in fab labs.
