April is Mathematics and Statistics Awareness Month
Today is the kick-off to a new look for DPI mathematics communications.
Join us in celebrating April as Mathematics and Statistics Awareness Month!
Children are constantly making sense of new information in relation to what they already know through daily problem solving. As sense-makers within families and communities, we know that every student is a thinker, knower and doer of mathematics.
As a WI educator, celebrate Mathematics and Statistics Awareness Month by engaging in one or more of the following ways to learn more:
- Read the Wisconsin Vision for Mathematics and see which component most resonates with you!
- Visit Data You Can Use, a local non-profit, to become a curious data explorer and read about how WI data can be used to solve problems, leading to meaningful change.
- Check out the movie Counted Out. Watch through a lens of math as the language of proving and reasoning, decision making, or access. Showing locations can be found here: Look for Green Lake, Sun Prairie, and Just Equations options.
- Go to DREME Family Math to support families in building positive and joyful relationships with children around early math.
Watch for DPI’s initial monthly newsletter entitled Math Ed Matters to arrive in your inbox on April 1st.
