A Time to Remember. A Time to Prepare.
Dodge County Sheriff involved in TV campaign
(MADISON) – Dodge County Sheriff Todd Nehls is featured in a public service announcement (PSA) which will air on TV stations across the state in September urging everyone to prepare for emergencies. The PSA is produced by Wisconsin Emergency Management through its ReadyWisconsin preparedness program. The PSA is part of a statewide campaign this September called “A Time to Remember. A Time to Prepare.”
This September marks the ten year anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. In the PSA, first responders from around Wisconsin are urging individuals and families to remember the 9/11 victims and honor them by preparing for future disasters and emergencies. “Too often people fall victims of a disaster solely because they were not prepared,” said Sheriff Nehls. “Some prior planning can provide the comfort you need should a disaster strike you.”
Preparing for emergency events requires individuals and families to be self-reliant for up to three days without utilities and electricity, water service, access to a supermarket or local services, or maybe even without response from police, fire or rescue. Preparing can start with three important steps:
- Get an emergency supply kit
- Make a plan for what to do in an emergency
- Be informed about emergencies that could happen in your community and identify sources of information that will be helpful before, during and after an emergency.
“Parents have an obligation to their families to prepare and plan for the various disasters common to Wisconsin,” added Nehls.
Nehls is also asking everyone to visit the ReadyWisconsin website for more information. You can also sign up for a chance to win an emergency kit. The website is: http://readywisconsin.wi.gov or simply search “ReadyWisconsin.”
Copies of the PSA are available for broadcast and cable outlets. Please contact Tod Pritchard at 608-242-3324 or 608-219-4008 or tod.pritchard@wisconsin.gov.
