Greetings! This Worker Protection Standard (WPS) newsletter is sent out by the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP) regularly throughout the year as needed. You have been signed up as a result of your email address provided through a DATCP WPS inspection or have voluntarily signed up to receive WPS information provided by DATCP.

CENTRAL LOCATION INFORMATION AND RESTRICTIONS BEFORE, DURING, AND AFTER APPLICATION(S)

Central Location Information

An establishment must display, maintain, and provide access to pesticide safety information, pesticide application, and hazard information for 30 days following a pesticide application or when a Restricted Entry Interval (REI) is in effect.

At each central location information, the establishment must display an EPA WPS poster. Be sure to write-in emergency medical information and DATCP contact information: Address: DATCP, 2811 Agriculture Drive, Madison, WI 53718 Phone: (608) 224-4500. You can print your poster on the DATCP WPS webpage.  Pesticide application record information must be posted within 24 hours of the end of the application and stay posted for 30 days following the expiration of the REI per application. Application records must include the following: Crop/site treated – location – description of treated area Date(s) – time(s) of application started/ended Pesticide product name, EPA reg. no., active ingredient Restricted entry interval (if any)

RESTRICTIONS BEFORE, DURING, AND AFTER APPLICATION(S)

It is important to review the restricted entry interval (REI) of the pesticide products prior to application. The length of the REI and whether you are applying outdoors or in an enclosed space will determine if you are required to verbally inform your workers of the pesticide application taking place or if you can put up signage at field entrance points at the area of application. Below is an outline of your options:

• Dual Notice Products – Required to verbally inform AND post signage
• Outdoor Production – REI greater than 48 hours – post signage
• Outdoor Production – REI less than/equal to 48 hours – verbally inform OR post signage
• Enclosed Space Production – REI greater than four hours – post signage
• Enclosed Space Production – REI less than/equal to four hours – verbally inform OR post signage

When verbally informing your workers of a pesticide application, you are required to relay the following information:

• Location and description of the treated area
• Date(s) and time(s) entry will be prohibited per REI
• Any instructions about the restrictions
• Information must be provided in the language of the workers
• Must inform them BEFORE the application occurs

When posting at the field of application, you are required to comply with the following: Sign must meet content requirement Stern Face/Danger/Peligro/ Pesticides/Pesticidas/Keep Out/No Entre You can purchase signs that comply here Post signs at field entry points Signs must be visible and legible Post no sooner than 24 hours before application Signs stay posted until REI has expired Signs must be removed within three days of REI expiration

If a sign was posted at the field of application, it must be either taken down or covered within three days of the REI expiring. Signs cannot be treated as “no trespassing” signs.
