September 3-5, 2024 – Nairobi, Kenya
The Kenyan Food Event, also known as KFE, is East Africa's largest food, drink, and hospitality trade exhibition!
Why Kenya? Processed foods, meat, dairy, distilled spirits, craft beers, health and organic foods, snacks, and dry rubs are all gaining in popularity as urbanization increases.
East Africa is an untapped market of opportunity for food and beverage companies. That is because:
- There are roughly 1,200 food and beverage manufacturers in Kenya alone, ranging from smaller organizations to multinationals.
- Growing incomes and rising urbanization have caused a sustained increase in food and beverage sales in Kenya over the last 15 years.
- Figures suggest Nairobi has the highest consumer food and beverage spending power, with more being spent on high-cost foods.
- The food and beverage sub-sector in hospitality is valued at $302 million USD, with a 5% growth rate per year.
DATCP offers a turnkey, furnished, and shared booth package for interested Wisconsin businesses. Participants are responsible for airfare, hotel, and meals.

From April 8-11, Wisconsin companies Agropur and Masters Gallery exhibited within the Wisconsin Pavilion at the Anuga Select Brazil tradeshow in São Paulo, Brazil! Columbia Grain, representing Great River Milling, also exhibited within the USA Pavilion. The Brazilian market is the largest in Latin America, with the food sector worth more than $472 billion. It is the fifth largest country in the world, with the seventh largest population and the tenth largest economy.
Representatives from these Wisconsin companies and staff from DATCP's International Agribusiness Center participated in a retail store tour; attended a market briefing; and met with buyers, distributors, USDEC officials, USDA-Foreign Agricultural Service staff from São Paulo, Agricultural Trade Office staff from Brasília, and with Consul General David Hodge over the course of the week.

From April 22-25, representatives from 11 State Departments of Agriculture and 47 American businesses and organizations traveled to New Delhi, India as part of a U.S. Department of Agriculture agribusiness trade mission. Krista Knigge, Administrator of DATCP’s Division of Agricultural Development, participated in the trade mission.
With the second largest population in the world, the number of citizens in India under age 30 is equal to the size of the entire US population. Animal agriculture industry products, including value-added animal feed and bovine genetics, are among Wisconsin's top agricultural exports to India. Fruits and vegetables, including cranberries, are also a top Wisconsin export to the country.
Export opportunities on the horizon include consumer healthy food products and ingredients, as store shelves and markets in India are featuring more healthy snacks and foods promoting wellness. A strong tradition of herbal medicine use in India also provides an opportunity to introduce Wisconsin ginseng to the country.
