The Wisconsin Agricultural Export Advisory Council (WAXC) helps guide the initiatives created through the Wisconsin Initiative for Agricultural Exports (WIAE)*, a collaborative project between DATCP and WEDC to promote the export of Wisconsin's agricultural and agribusiness products.The WIAE* was proposed in Gov. Tony Evers 2021-23 biennial state budget and specifically aims to boost the export of dairy, meat, and crop products.

DATCP is again accepting applications for export expansion grants, which are funded through the WIAE*. Applications may be submitted through November 16, 2022.
This grant aims to accelerate the growth of Wisconsin dairy, meat, and crop product exports. Applicants must be a not-for-profit organization, located in Wisconsin, and currently serving or have the ability to serve Wisconsin agribusinesses. Projects can receive grant funds for up to two years in duration with an option to request an additional year. Grants will be awarded up to $50,000 for meat and crop-focused projects, and $100,000 for dairy-focused projects. Matching funds are required at 20 percent of the grant award and can be cash or in-kind.
DATCP, in collaboration with the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation (WEDC), invites Wisconsin agribusinesses to apply for International Market Access Grants (IMAG) through April 1, 2023.
Coordinated by WEDC, IMAGs provide funding to support a company’s specific export development and deployment strategy. The WIAE* expands WEDC’s existing IMAG program by designating funds solely for agribusinesses. Applicants must be an established agribusiness that is new to exporting or expanding into new markets, operating in Wisconsin for at least one year, and manufacturing, processing, assembling, or distributing a product that has the potential to be exported.
Companies that have not completed ExporTech™ training can receive IMAG funding up to three times with a maximum of $10,000 per grant. ExporTech™ graduates can receive IMAG funding up to six times with a maximum of $25,000 per grant. Matching funds are required at 30 percent of the grant award. Eligible project expenses include costs associated with trade shows and ventures, marketing, promotions, consulting services, and export education.

This Trade Promotion Coordinator (LTE) position will work closely with the International Agribusiness Center (IABC) staff to support trade promotion activities, including trade show pavilions, inbound buyers missions, social media campaigns, and exporter trainings. The selected candidate will also assist in compiling the documentation and follow-up information for financial, post-event reporting and company success stories.

USDA FAS Canada is hosting a retail promotion specifically for consumer-packaged foods, which will be tested in three to five grocery units over a three-to-four-week period in March 2023. Companies that are export-ready, well established in the U.S., and can meet the quantity demands that will be expected of larger grocers are well-suited for this promotion.

Following FOODEX 2023, Food Export Midwest is organizing a trade mission to South Korea for ingredients, foodservice, and retail products. Services include one-on-one meetings with qualified buyers; pre-event custom product research; a market briefing by local USDA Foreign Agriculture Service; retail store tours; translation of up to two pages of materials into Korean; tabletop showcase and trade reception; on-site assistance by Food Export’s in-market representative; and identification of top leads.

Recently, representatives from DATCP’s International Agribusiness Center traveled to Kenya on an agriculture trade mission with the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
Trade mission participants had the opportunity to engage directly with potential importers, receive in-depth market briefings, and participate in site visits. Participants also learned how Kenya’s geographical location and growing population makes it a strategic economic and transport hub for East and Central Africa. This trade mission offered U.S. growers, producers, and exporters the opportunity to learn more about the expanding opportunities for the Kenyan export market.
On October 27, 2022, DATCP staff and James Baerwolf had the opportunity to meet with Minister Counselor Zhu Haiquan, First Secretary Lu Chao, and Attache Xue Li from Embassy of the People's Republic of China. Participants were able to tour Sassy Cow Creamery, Wisconsin specialty cheeses, and learn more about Wisconsin's dairy industry.
U.S. Livestock Genetics Export, Inc. (USLGE) is accepting applications from livestock and livestock genetic businesses for their 2023 Market Access Program Brand Promotion Program.
- Brand promotion can be carried out by single U.S. companies who qualify as a small business or U.S. agricultural cooperatives.
- USDA/FAS will reimburse up to 50% of allowable expenses.
- Allowable expenses can include:
- Advertising
- Seminars and educational training
- Trade shows
- Translation of materials
- Websites that target an international audience
- Social media to target international markets
- Promotional videos targeting an international audience
- Detailed activity proposals must be submitted.
- USLGE collects a 5% administrative fee based on the determined allocation or $500, whichever is greater.
