Yakima Valley College, Yakima School District and Central Washington University partner to put students first
Yakima Valley College, Yakima School District and Central Washington University (CWU) have signed a memorandum of understanding with the goal of streamlining pathways for students to obtain postsecondary education and credentials. This partnership aims to address barriers to postsecondary education including obtaining transcripts, application fees, credit transfer issues and limited transportation options. As an example, CWU is working with officials from Selah, Yakima, Ellensburg and the Washington Department of Transportation to expand transportation services into the evening to help make sure students have a ride home. Advisory committee highlights importance of hydropower, nuclear energy for Eastern Washington
Business, labor and port leaders have issued a new report that calls for safeguarding hydropower and the Lower Snake River dams, advancing nuclear development and modernizing water infrastructure, among other recommendations. The report was prepared by the Infrastructure & Energy Advisory Committee of U.S. Rep. Michael Baumgartner, R-Wash. Read more.
Washington State Green Bank supports clean energy projects
The Washington State Green Bank provides financing to make clean energy projects affordable for everyone, especially low-income and underserved communities. The Green Bank, supported by the state's Climate Commitment Act, focuses on providing low-interest loans to homeowners and renters for clean energy projects. This work also helps businesses make buildings, farms and multifamily housing more energy efficient, creating good jobs in the clean energy sector. Learn more.
Training opportunities available through the Qualified Contractor Network
The Qualified Contractor Network, a Washington State Department of Commerce program, helps contractors navigate rebate programs through training, marketing and ongoing general support. The network is currently promoting a Building Operator Certification Level I Multifamily training scheduled for this fall. The program also offers Building Performance Center trainings in subjects like air sealing and weatherization and the opportunity to obtain an energy auditor certification.
