Find Snow Priority Routes on County Travel Planner
During this most recent snow event, we received lots of calls about where we'd be plowing and when. The Whatcom County Travel Planner details the County’s Snow Priority Routes. These are the roads that we prioritize during snow events. Our plows will start with Priority 1 roads and move on to Priority 2, 3, and 4 roads as conditions allow. During ongoing snowfall, this may mean we cannot plow roads further down the list until we can maintain our Priority 1 roads. We also cannot respond to public requests to plow specific areas until our priority roads are clear.
Visit our website's Snow & Ice Management page to learn more about how we plan for snow events and prioritize roads. For information on winter preparedness for your home and vehicle, please visit our partners at Whatcom Ready.

New Girders Placed at N. Lake Samish Bridge
We were recently on site for the installation of the bridge girders for the North Lake Samish Bridge Replacement Project. These are essentially the foundation of the new bridge deck. See them being installed in our recent project update video.
Up next, the crews will spend the next several weeks setting up the forms and rebar for the bridge deck. Once the forms are in place, concrete pouring for the bridge deck will likely take place in April, with sidewalks, guard rails, and lighting not far behind.

Two-Week Ferry Dry Dock Anticipated for Spring
The Whatcom Chief will undergo a two-week dockside dry dock outage this spring. Please note: We will not know the official dry dock dates until after a bid is awarded.
We plan to offer potential bidders a four-week window to schedule the ferry's dry dock, a flexible approach to attract the most shipyards. The bid language will require the selected shipyard to accommodate the Whatcom Chief dockside for two consecutive weeks between April 18 and May 16.
Again, it's important to note that we cannot narrow down the potential dry dock dates until we award the bid and confer with the shipyard. To stay up-to-date on the latest dry dock information, please bookmark our Lummi Island Ferry Dry Dock website and sign up for our email & text alerts.
