National Moving Month Starts Now. Is Your Team Ready?

May marks National Moving Month and the start of the busy moving season. Demand picks up quickly, so it is a good time to make sure your team is ready.

Check your equipment, review schedules, and make sure staff are clear on expectations. It is also a good time to double-check that you are meeting all UTC requirements. Small steps now can help your business run smoothly during the busiest time of year.

Need a quick refresher? Visit the UTC Household Goods Carriers page.

Can Household Goods Carriers Charge a Credit Card Fee?

No. Household Goods Tariff 15-C does not allow movers to charge a separate credit card fee. The commission decided these costs should be included in the commission-approved rate bands provided in the tariff instead. This helps customers know the full price upfront, without extra charges based on how they pay.

In May 2026, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) will launch a new motor carrier registration system called Motus.

Motus is designed to make registration and account management easier, while helping prevent fraud and improve data accuracy.

FMCSA-regulated motor carriers will need to:

  • Create a Motus account
  • Verify the identity of the primary contact listed in the FMCSA Portal
  • Update their business information

For more information, visit the FMCSA Registration Modernization Resources Hub.
