New Online Option for Household Goods Industry Training
Starting this week, household goods carriers can choose to take the UTC industry training completely online, on their own schedule. In addition to the live trainings led by UTC staff, carriers can choose to take the entire required training online at their own pace. The online training can be completed in one setting or over several sessions and includes a knowledge check at the end. Visit the Household Goods Industry Training page for details on how to access the online training. Email householdgoods@utc.wa.gov with questions.
Changes to Tariff 15-C
The UTC has made several changes to Tariff 15-C. Below is a summary of the changes.
Please note that container rates in Items 195, 196, and 225 increased two times in 2021. The first was a 9% increase effective Feb. 11 and a second increase of 12% effective July 30, for a total increase of 21% in 2021.
Changes effective Feb. 11, 2021
Item 105 – General Application of Rates for Long Distance Moves
- The UTC added language that allows companies more flexibility to use their preferred mileage calculation software for determining appropriate charges for long-distance moves. The tariff previously only allowed for the use of Rand McNally’s Mile Maker software, which is a costly commercial software solution for determining mileage. Revisions allow the use of other software similar to Mile Maker, but companies no longer have to use Mile Maker exclusively.
- The UTC added a requirement that carriers must use the route that reflects the least number of miles between the point of origin and the destination, regardless of the software used.
- Carriers must identify on the Estimate and Bill of Lading forms which software they used when determining the appropriate mileage for a long-distance move.
- The UTC updated the sample Bill of Lading and Estimate forms to include a line item specifically for indicating the mileage calculation software used.
- These sample forms are current and comply with the most current version of Tariff 15-C.
Item 195 – Packing Charges
- Packing charges are rates that include both container prices and labor costs for packing the containers; however, the revised rates include a 9% increase to the container portion of the rates only.
Item 196 – Container Prices
· The UTC increased all maximum container rates by 9%.
Item 225 – Container Prices
- The UTC increased all maximum container rates by 9%.
