UTC Clean Energy Bulletin

The June 2 EIA rule adoption hearing has been canceled.

The Washington Utilities and Transportation Commission has canceled and plans to reschedule the adoption hearing for proposed rules in its Energy Independence Act (EIA) rulemaking.

Legislation passed in 2019 amended portions of the EIA to require utilities to source 100% of their electricity from renewable or non-carbon-emitting resources, update resource definitions, and update renewable energy credit eligibility. The 2019 law also requires the commission to streamline its rules with the requirements of the new legislation as well as add low-income and equity language to ensure all customers are benefiting from the new legislation.

The adoption hearing was scheduled for June 2; however, the commission has reviewed the comments received from stakeholders on its proposed rules and has determined that additional revisions are necessary. The commission intends to issue revised proposed rules and schedule a new adoption hearing.

The notice canceling the June 2 adoption hearing can be found here.
