General News and Announcement

Dear Community Member,

Pierce Transit is excited to announce our new CEO, Mike Griffus! Monday, the Pierce Transit Board of Commissioners approved a contract with Mike to serve as the agency’s leader following the retirement of former Pierce Transit CEO Sue Dreier earlier this summer.

Griffus has served as Pierce Transit’s Chief Operating Officer since 2016, where he directly managed about 80 percent of the agency’s employees, including its 500 bus operators. He also served as the agency's Chief Safety Officer and was responsible for safety and security across the system. Mike has an extensive background in the transportation industry; you can read more about his background here.

Please join us in giving Mike a warm welcome, and watch for him to be out in the community sharing his plans for how Pierce Transit can continue building on the service we're providing to the people of Pierce County.

“I am honored and humbled to have the opportunity to serve as Pierce Transit’s CEO,” says Griffus. “While the agency is doing a great job serving our community with the resources at hand, there are still many opportunities to improve and expand mobility options for the people of Pierce County. I look forward to partnering with our talented employees and community partners on that important work in the weeks, months and years ahead.”
