School Update—April 2025

Vaccines

  • Outbreaks of measles, pertussis, and flu remind us of the importance of vaccines.

  • Encourage families to get recommended vaccines now rather than waiting for August and September when providers are busiest.

  • Find free vaccine events and locations on our website at tpchd.org/kidsvax.

Traveling for spring break?

  • Get your flu shot now if you haven’t yet. Flu is still circulating at high levels.
  • Washington State Department of Health reports that current flu activity is the highest in 7 years.
  • If traveling internationally, make sure you are up to date on MMR.
    • Infants 6–11 months—Should receive 1 dose of MMR vaccine before departure. They should receive 2 more doses after 12 months of age, at least 28 days apart.
    • Children 12 months or older—Should receive 2 doses of MMR vaccine, at least 28 days apart.
    • Teenagers and adults without evidence of immunity—Should receive 2 doses of MMR vaccine, at least 28 days apart.
    • Evidence of measles immunity includes any of the following:
      • Born before 1957.
      • Documentation of 2 doses of live measles virus vaccine (MMR, MMRV, or other measles-containing vaccine).
      • Lab (serologic) proof of immunity or lab confirmation of disease.
  • Check cdc.gov/travel for other recommended vaccines based on your travel destination.
