Pierce County COVID-19 data update: Cases, hospitalizations and deaths

Because of the Fourth of July holiday, this week’s COVID-19 case report does not include a full week of data. You can get updated case and hospitalization rates on our main dashboard Thursday morning.

Last week, CDC moved Pierce County into its high COVID-19 community level. We use a slightly different data set and longer lag time for data than CDC uses for its community levels. Our local numbers continue to show us in the medium level.

We know COVID-19 will be with us for some time. We are learning to live with the virus, and we must continue to follow all the best public health practices for each situation.

On July 2, our current COVID-19 7-day case rate per 100,000 is 228.9 for June 16-22, which is:

  • Less than 10% increase from the last 7-day period (date range: June 9-15).

Our current 7-day hospitalization rate per 100,000 is 5.8 for June 16-22, which is:

  • 13.4% lower than the previously reported 7-day period (date range June 9-15).

We confirmed 1,054 cases of COVID-19 for June 26-July 2 and 5 deaths:

  • A woman in her 60s from Lake Tapps - Sumner.
  • A woman in her 100s from South Hill.
  • A man in his 80s from Lakewood.
  • A man in his 80s from Graham.
  • A man in his 60s from East Tacoma.

We record deaths in our cases dashboard on our data page which reflects the date of death.

Pierce County's total COVID-19 count is 206,360 cases and 1,389 deaths. Our average cases per day over the past 7 days ending July 2 is 151.

In the last 2 weeks:

  • 14.3 % of our cases are younger than 20 years old. People in that age group make up 26.4% of Pierce County’s population.
  • 25.3% of our cases are ages 20-34. That age group makes up 19.7% of our population.
  • 25.2% of our cases are ages 35-49. That age group makes up 18.9% of our population.
  • 35.2% of our cases are ages 50 or older. That age group makes up 35% of our population.
