Eighteen Community Art Projects Funded by the Tacoma Arts Commission
The Tacoma Arts Commission recently awarded $50,000 in 2015 Arts Projects funding to 18 Tacoma organizations in support of public outreach projects in the fields of music, dance, theater, literary, visual, cross-disciplinary, and cultural arts. The awards ranged in value from $1,000 to $4,600. Funded projects include the production of five diverse cultural and arts festivals, historical arts and crafts demonstrations, visual art programs for families, contemporary and classical dance performances, a theater production, a variety of music performances, poetry readings, arts components to a cultural event, and a community-wide guerrilla art project. Survey Launched to Determine Space Needs for Area Artists, Arts Organizations and Creative Businesses

Recycle Your Christmas Tree
Solid Waste customers in Tacoma can take advantage of one of two ways to dispose of unflocked, undecorated Christmas trees without stands. Trees can be cut into sections small enough to fit into curbside food and yard waste containers or dropped off at the recycle center. Designated containers to collect the trees will be available now through Sunday, Jan. 25, 2015. Flocked trees can be disposed of in the garbage.

Healthy Homes, Healthy Neighborhoods Event
Residents of the Dometop neighborhood are invited to a Healthy Homes, Healthy Neighborhoods Community Breakfast on Saturday, Feb. 7, at 9 a.m. – 11 a.m., at the VFW Hall (3510 McKinley Ave. E. in Tacoma). At this event, program partners will give a short presentation to the community about cost-effective ways to live a more healthy and sustainable lifestyle.
The City of Tacoma is partnering with local organizations and community leaders to connect Dometop residents to services and other opportunities that improve the health of their home and neighborhood, all while saving them money.
