As of January 1, 2026, I have the honor of serving as Mayor of this great city. I begin this new chapter with deep gratitude, humility, and determination for the work ahead. Serving this city is both a responsibility and a privilege, and I am committed to approaching each day with dedication to the people that make Tacoma so special.
The year ahead holds tremendous opportunity. From improving public safety and housing stability, to strengthening our local economy, supporting small businesses, and investing in infrastructure and sustainability, we have important work before us.
Going forward, I will use this monthly newsletter to share tangible progress and developments about the work being done towards my policy priorities. Expect detailed updates in future newsletters on the key issues you as community members have told me are your top concerns.
My administration will be accountable and transparent. I believe the best ideas come from listening — to community members, workers, families, young people, business owners, seniors, and everyone who calls Tacoma home.
Your voices will continue to guide the priorities and decisions of this administration. Each week I will be working from a local coffee shop, restaurant, or pub in all the different Council districts, creating time and space for dialogue with the community.
The next Office Hours will be Wednesday, January 28 at 5:30 PM at Top of Tacoma on McKinley Avenue. Follow City of Tacoma social media or visit Tacoma.gov/events to keep tabs on future office hours.
On January 6, 2026 when my swearing in took place, the city also welcomed new Councilmember Latasha Palmer (Position 6) and welcomed back Councilmembers Sandesh Sadalge (Position 4), Sarah Rumbaugh (Position 2), and Joe Bushnell (Position 5).
Each brings a unique perspective, deep care for our community, and a strong commitment to public service. I have great respect for their leadership, experience, and willingness to engage in the thoughtful, sometimes challenging work that good governance requires. Tacoma is stronger because of the collective efforts of this Council.
Thank you for your trust and for your ongoing engagement in our city’s future. I am excited to serve alongside the Council and with all of you as I focus on the work you have elected me to do.
