The City Council is considering reauthorizing Tacoma Creates in 2025, and we want to hear from you! 

We invite you all to share your voice in this survey. Let us know how Tacoma Creates impacts you, your family, and our city! 

Tacoma Creates is a community-supported initiative to increase access to arts, culture, heritage, and science experiences throughout our city by reducing barriers to access and expanding offerings, particularly for underserved youth. Eligible non-profit arts, culture, heritage, and science organizations are able to apply for funding that helps them expand equitable access to public programs, increase opportunities in neighborhoods throughout Tacoma, expand educational options for youth, and build sustainability for ongoing cultural programs that provide value for people throughout our city.

Tacoma Creates currently funds over 70 local arts, culture, heritage, and science non-profits in our community, supporting programming in schools, libraries, parks, community centers, museums, and performing arts venues throughout the City. 

The vital cultural ecosystem supported by Tacoma Creates ranges from small, volunteer-led community programs to major downtown museums. All are critical to amplifying our local artists and economy, as well as creating opportunities for community engagement and connection. Tacoma Creates supports a wide array of public programming, including all ages and youth education.

I hear frequently about how much our community values creative work, and I believe Tacoma Creates underscores our city's commitment to advancing and preserving arts, culture, heritage, and science. Tacoma Creates is the first cultural access program of its kind in Washington State: it was passed by voters in 2018 with a 67% approval rating. The 0.1% sales tax that supports this program must be reauthorized every 7 years.

State law now allows for City Councils to authorize or reauthorize a cultural access program, and as we consider reauthorization in early 2025, it is important that we have a robust understanding of your views on the role and impact of Tacoma Creates funding.
