15th Annual South Sound Sustainability Expo
Celebrate Earth Day this year at the 15th Annual South Sound Sustainability Expo happening on Saturday, April 22 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the UW Tacoma campus (Prairie Line Trail) and Tollefson Plaza! This free community event is the perfect opportunity to participate in eco-friendly activities, learn about local environmental programs, and incorporate sustainable habits into your everyday lifestyle!
With over 70 vendors, ranging from non-profit organizations, to businesses, to government agencies working to improve the environment and prioritize climate resiliency in the South Sound, you can discover sustainable services and explore ways to get involved, such as through open volunteer opportunities. The Expo will also feature a vegan food truck, a free clothing swap hosted by The Chayah Movement where you can donate gently used adult clothing and take home donated items for reuse, a green building tour, kid’s corner, scavenger hunt, and much more! Be sure to visit the South Sound Sustainability Expo this year on Earth Day!
New Tax Supports City Cleanup Services - A new local excise tax on solid waste services goes into effect this month. The tax will provide funding for important city cleanup services like litter, debris and graffiti cleanup, increased public trash cans, and more. The tax will add about $3/month to residential customers with a 60-gallon garbage container. The funds generated from this tax will continue our collective efforts to ensure public spaces, including streets, sidewalks, trails, and business districts, are clean and healthy for those who live, work, and play there. Visit cityoftacoma.org/tidyup after April 10 to learn more and see how you can help identify where and how the City should focus Tidy Up Tacoma efforts.
