Tacoma Proclaims State of Emergency in Response to COVID-19 - Tacoma City Manager Elizabeth Pauli and Tacoma Mayor Victoria Woodards proclaimed a state of emergency in response to COVID-19 at 1 p.m. on Thursday, March 12, 2020 in accordance with the Tacoma Municipal Code Chapter 1.10. The proclamation of emergency will be confirmed by the City Council at the earliest practicable time.

Sustainability Expo and T-Town to be Rescheduled - As part of the City’s efforts to help prevent community spread of the virus, we are evaluating City-sponsored events scheduled for March. At this time, out of an abundance of caution and in recognition of community concerns, we have decided to reschedule the South Sound Sustainability Expo that was to take place on Saturday, March 14 as well as the T-Town City Services Expo that was to take place on Saturday, March 28.
The City of Tacoma is Taking the Precaution of Closing Its Senior Centers - The City of Tacoma continues to make community health and safety a top priority. While there are currently no confirmed cases of COVID-19 at either the Beacon (415 S. 13th St.) or Lighthouse (5016 A St.) Activity Centers, due to the increased health risk from COVID-19 to people over the age of 60, the City has determined that it would be in the best interest of senior participants to close the centers beginning March 11, 2020 at 8 a.m.

Innovative Grants are Available Now!
The City of Tacoma is providing funding for the 2020 Innovative Grant program to create an opportunity for inspired residents of Tacoma to make a positive impact in their community, within the eight Neighborhood Council areas. Tacoma Landmarks Preservation Commission is seeking nominations for the 2020 Historic Preservation Awards - Nominations can be submitted for consideration through Google Forms through Wednesday, April 22. 2020. The awards ceremony and reception will be on Thursday, May 28 from 6-8 p.m. at Point Defiance Pagoda (5801 Trolley Ln). The event is free and open to the public. Historian Melissa McGinnis will give a keynote presentation on the history of Tacoma’s parks. Light refreshments will be provided.
U.S. General Services Administration Northwest/Arctic Regional Headquarters
Announces Plans to Relocate to Tacoma in the Summer of 2021 - The U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) has announced its plans to relocate its Northwest/Arctic Regional headquarters from Auburn, Wash., where it has been for more than 50 years, to the Columbia Bank Center at 1301 A St. in Tacoma, Wash. This move is projected to bring approximately 320 jobs to Downtown Tacoma in the summer of 2021.
Applications are now available for Tacoma Creates funding - Active Business District Associations and Neighborhood Councils recognized by the City of Tacoma may apply for funding for neighborhood-based arts, culture, heritage, and/or science programs or events, especially fairs and festivals, but must have a Fiscal Sponsor that is a 501(c)(3) organization in Tacoma that meets Tacoma Creates’ Primary Purpose criteria of advancing or preserving arts, culture, heritage, and/or science. The application deadline for Impact Funding is March 18, 2020; this cycle of funding will cover programs that happen between June 1, 2020 and June 30, 2021. Community Forum is an opportunity to speak before Council on any matter the City has jurisdiction over.
