Asked & Answered

Below are a list of topics and concerns that came up over the last month during Neighborhood Council meetings city-wide. Read on for clarifications and answers to your questions.

You Asked for It

Question: Can residents remove signs and posters from poles and planting strips? (South Tacoma)

Answer: Under state law, residents can remove posters and signs from telephone poles. If a sign has been placed in the planting strip in front of a home or business, without authorization of the property owner, they may be removed. Signs on utility poles, benches, trees, and buildings are addressed by the Tacoma Municipal Code. The City asks that residents report signs that may be illegal to 311 so that City staff may remove them and the City can track sign locations and repeat offenders.

Question: What is happening with the Morgan Motel? (South End)

Answer: Tax & License has received an application for a business license from a new owner, however the sale of the property has not been finalized. The City is clarifying with the new owner what type of business activity they plan to engage in, and whether any restrictions may apply, if different than motel activity. More information will be made available when a determination has been made.
