Spokane Workforce Council Introduces New Grant Program to Support Black, Indigenous, and Latine Communities!
Spokane, WA - May 20, 2024 - Spokane Workforce Council is pleased to announce the launch of the Accelerating Community Connections grant opportunity for organizations that provide services to individuals from Black, Indigenous, and Latine communities.
Organizations awarded these funds will conduct outreach and connect area residents to local workforce system resources. Our goal is also to build stronger relationships with new partners and include more diverse voices as we design and build a workforce system that serves everyone in our community.
Funded by the Washington Department of Commerce’s Community Reinvestment Plan, these grants are intended to address racial, economic, and social disparities created by the historic design and enforcement of state and federal criminal laws and penalties for drug possession (the war on drugs), by helping connect these communities to the wide array of career development resources available in our area.
Andrea Hixson, Program & Operations Associate Director for Spokane Workforce Council, stated, “We are so excited for the opportunity to partner with local organizations that help us more effectively serve our community and also work with us to design more equitable access to the workforce development system for all.”
