Media Invited to Groundbreaking for Future Spokane Valley Cross Course
Spokane Valley, WA – The City of Spokane Valley, in partnership with Spokane Sports, is proud to announce the groundbreaking of a dedicated, premier cross country venue that will host national, regional and local cross country events. The course will be located within a new 62-acre public park along the scenic Spokane River and will enhance the community and boost the local economy through sports tourism. In the future, the venue will be equipped to host cyclocross and other sports events outside of the competitive cross country season.
What: Groundbreaking for the future Spokane Valley Cross Course
When: 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2024
Where: 2710 N. Flora Road, Spokane Valley (The new address may not show accurately on all mapping apps - From I-90, travel north on Sullivan Road for approximately one mile. Turn east on E. Euclid Avenue. Turn south at the intersection of Euclid and Flora Road. Cross the railroad tracks and the site will be on your left. View map.)
Who: The development of the Cross Course is a collaborative partnership between the City of Spokane Valley, Spokane Sports and the Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission. Event speakers include Spokane Valley Mayor Pam Haley, Spokane Sports CEO Ashley Blake, Gonzaga University Director of Cross Country/Track and Field and Head Men's Coach Pat Tyson, Tourism Promotion Area (TPA) Hotel Commission Chair and Mirabeau Park Hotel and Convention Center Owner Lee Cameron, and Spokane Valley City Manager John Hohman. The primary contractors are Turner & Townsend Heery, Walker Construction, Inc. and SPVV Landscape Architects.
Project Timeline: The course will be completed in the fall of 2025, accommodating a preview season, and then will host a full cross country schedule of invitational and championship events in fall 2026.
