Traffic signal boxes in Spokane Valley are now beautifying our community, thanks to a collaboration between the City, Spokane Arts and STCU. This public art project, fully funded by STCU, supported the installation of 20 locations throughout the region, including 12 in Spokane Valley. The art wraps have been sited at high traffic intersections throughout the city. Spokane Arts recruited original designs from area artists to cover traffic signal and utility boxes. The selected art, printed on vinyl wraps, is intended to beautify otherwise utilitarian surfaces, showcase local artists and reduce vandalism.

Construction Spotlight: Pines and Mission on Schedule
Senior Civil Engineer Glenn Ritter shares that coordinating with the community to increase traffic efficiency is just one of his favorite parts of working for the City of Spokane Valley. As a project manager in the Public Works Department, Glenn ensures the city’s Capital Improvement Projects are completed safely, using quality materials, on time and on budget, with as little disruption to the community as possible.
Currently, Glenn is managing the intersection improvement project at Pines Road and Mission Avenue. The project, which aims to increase safety, reduce congestion and improve overall traffic flow, began in April and is on schedule to be completed in August, if not earlier. It includes new turn lanes, signal modifications, new roadway markings and stormwater improvements. Please continue to support our valued local businesses in the area, which are open during construction.

Enjoy a Segment of the Newly Paved Trail
A 14-mile stretch of The Centennial Trail, including the portion that runs through Spokane Valley, was closed earlier this spring for repairs and to resurface it with a new layer of asphalt. Construction is being completed in sections. State Parks recently announced that the 6.5-mile section of the trail from the Washington / Idaho State Line to the Barker Road Trailhead is now open and available for use. Please exercise caution as work continues on the bollards and kiosks in this area.
