Federal Way Link Extension’s Traffic Mitigation Construction
Contractor crews working for Sound Transit are currently working in your neighborhood to implement roadway improvements as we prepare for the Federal Way Link Extension (FWLE) opening on Dec. 6. These efforts aim to improve traffic flow and safety around the project area.
What you’re seeing
Work will continue in the coming weeks. This effort includes lane closures, temporary detours, and changes to traffic patterns near FWLE stations. We appreciate your patience as we understand these changes can be disruptive.
Why this work matters
For drivers, these upgrades will improve traffic flow while enhancing visibility and safety at key intersections. Pedestrians will gain safer crossings and pathways, making it safer to navigate the area, whether someone is walking, biking, or driving.
What’s next
In the next several weeks, crews will keep working on the roadway improvements, including:
-
Curb, gutter, utility, and drainage adjustments
-
Sidewalk and crosswalk changes
-
Traffic signal timing adjustments
What you can expect
Over a series of weekdays and weekends, you can expect overnight road closures, day and nighttime directional closures, and daytime lane reductions. We will notify the neighborhood before this work begins. To receive the most up-to-date information, please sign up to receive our project updates.
We expect to finish the bulk of this work by January 2026. You may continue to see our crew working, as they ensure everything meets expected standards. We appreciate your patience and understanding while we prepare for the start of service.
