What's the latest news on the Ballard Link Extension project?
As a reminder, we are working with the Federal Transit Administration to finalize the new Draft Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for the Ballard Link Extension (BLE) project. We expect to publish the new BLE Draft EIS later this year.
The Draft EIS is an environmental review document that evaluates potential routes and station locations under consideration, collectively referred to as “alternatives.” The Draft EIS helps Sound Transit, the public, community partners, and decision-makers better understand the possible benefits and impacts of each alternative on the environment and nearby communities, as well as strategies for reducing these potential impacts.
To recap, we published a Draft EIS for the West Seattle and Ballard Link Extensions in 2022. The upcoming BLE Draft EIS will include the BLE alternatives studied in the 2022 Draft EIS, some of which have been refined, plus new alternatives the Sound Transit Board identified after a period of further studies.
Once it’s published, you’ll have the opportunity to review and provide feedback during a public comment period. Stay tuned for announcements about public meetings, updates via email and our website, and other engagement opportunities.
