Sound Transit to implement new pavement markings to enhance crossing safety
Sound Transit will paint pavement markings at select grade-level intersections along MLK Jr Way S between May 19 and June 19, weather permitting.
Why
- The goal of the project is to reduce near misses and collisions with the train by clearly marking safe distances, helping prevent people driving, walking, rolling or biking from stopping too close or traveling in the buffer zone when the train is nearby.
What

Crews will install new pavement markings at select intersections; some noise is expected. Sound Transit has obtained a Temporary Noise Variance (TNV) from the City of Seattle for this work.

Construction will take place on weekdays between 1:30 a.m.- 5 a.m.

There will be temporary restrictions, including no straight or left turn movements, for vehicle traffic near work sites between 1:30 a.m. – 5 a.m. Detours will be in place during this time.
When
- Work is weather dependent and is scheduled to take place on weekdays between May 19 and June 19 between 1:30 a.m. and 5 a.m.

Pavement markings will be installed on the east and west sides of the light rail track at the following intersections:
