A look back at West Seattle Link’s 2024
We want to thank everyone who engaged with us in 2024. The West Seattle Link Extension (WSLE) project reached important milestones that brought us steps closer to the conclusion of the planning phase and the start of the design phase. During 2024, we engaged community members about the station design, published the WSLE Final Environmental Impact Statement (EIS), and the Sound Transit Board selected the project route and station locations. Throughout the year, we continued to meet with community groups, property owners, and businesses to share project timeline updates and answer questions.
Here's a summary of our engagement by the numbers:
-
We hosted two in-person open house events, which attracted a combined 260 community members, to share community feedback we received during the 2023 station planning engagement period.
-
We hosted three in-person events, which gathered 150 people altogether, to answer questions following the publication of the Final EIS.
-
We staffed tables at six community events to share project information and answer questions, engaging with more than 370 community members.
-
We facilitated nearly 80 briefings and meetings (in-person and virtually) with property owners, tenants, and community organizations.
-
We responded to over 275 questions via our project email and hotline.
-
We sent seven email updates to 12,000+ subscribers and regularly updated our project web page.
-
We proactively communicated information to neighbors and businesses about 32 geotechnical borings to better understand soil and groundwater conditions via door-to-door communication, emails, and phone calls.
Additionally, throughout 2024, we continued our partnership with the City of Seattle’s Community Liaison program to support our engagement efforts in historically underrepresented communities within our project area. For a closer look at our engagement reports visit the resource library on our online open house.
Your years of feedback and involvement led to the Sound Transit Board’s selection of the project to be built. We greatly appreciate the time you’ve spent engaging with us. In 2025, we will continue working closely with the Federal Transit Administration to support them to complete the Record of Decision (ROD) process as quickly as possible. The final design will begin when the ROD is issued. This action will allow us to move the project forward.
We look forward to the engagement opportunities in 2025!
