Welcome to the Winter 2025 edition of Sound Transit’s CTR newsletter! We’ve pulled together service-related and project-related highlights into one handy place for you to forward to your employees or professional network.
Several 1 Line stations will be closed during scheduled weekend disruptions in January and February as we work to integrate the connection between the 1 Line and 2 Line in Downtown Seattle. These closures will affect U District, Capitol Hill, Westlake, Symphony, Pioneer Square, International District/Chinatown, Stadium, and SODO stations. Please expect delays as passengers transfer to/from Link shuttle buses, which will stop at each closed station on the 1 Line during the disruptions. Thank you for your patience as we get one step closer to extending the 2 Line across Lake Washington!

Sound Transit and other agencies that use ORCA propose lowering the ORCA regional day pass adult fare value from $3.50 to $3 and lowering the cost of the ORCA day pass from $8 to $6, aligning with the $3 fare on Link and ST Express services. The changes would reduce the day pass price for reduced-fare riders (ORCA LIFT, seniors, and riders with disabilities) from $4 to $2, aligning with the $1 reduced-fare value.
Please send any comments or questions by Jan. 31 via email to fares@soundtransit.org.

Local students showcased their art skills in the 1 Line Rail Safety Poster Contest, a partnership with Sound Transit, Sno-Isle Libraries, and the Latino Educational Training Institute (LETI).
Students from kindergarten through 12th grade sent in submissions, which stressed Sound Transit’s key safety messages:
- Look both ways.
- Take crosswalks, not shortcuts.
- Headphones off, screens down.
- Stay behind the yellow line.
- Bike smart, ride safe.
Check out the winning designs onboard 1 Line trains and at the link below. Great job, students!
At Sound Transit, safety is one of our core values. We want the safest trip for every rider, each and every day. We have a security presence at every Link station, in addition to roaming security officers and dedicated officers from the King County Sheriff's Office and Bellevue Police. Always stay alert when riding, and notify security of any suspicious behavior, unattended packages, or janitorial concerns via call or text at (206) 398-5268. If you’re having an emergency, or if you witness/are a victim of a crime, text or call 911.

We recently doubled the number of daily trips on the Sounder N Line serving Edmonds, Mukilteo, and Everett from downtown Seattle. At present, four southbound trips a day operate in the morning, and four northbound trips run in the evening. Recent service changes from Community Transit offer improved connectivity from residential areas to stations along the N Line and Link 1 Line. Amtrak Rail Plus provides an additional southbound midday trip and northbound evening trip serving Edmonds and Everett.
Sound Transit transitioned to a flat fare for Link light rail rides back in August. Thanks to this change, there’s no need to tap your fare media to the ORCA reader when exiting Fare Paid Zones. We hope this simple change will help you reach your destination a few seconds faster after your ride.
Our passengers who ride north to destinations in Snohomish County may have a longer ride than some. There are public restrooms at each of our four new stations: Lynnwood City Center, Mountlake Terrace, Shoreline North, and Shoreline South. Please feel welcome to stop in as you travel through the system.
