Exploring changes to the Sounder starts now!
In addition to seeking your feedback, our Sounder project team conducted an extensive technical analysis that imagined potential scenarios for the Sounder S Line. Our analysis revealed some new insights:
- We could reach thousands of new riders with more schedule options during weekdays and offerings on weekends.
- Other transit agencies around the country that have shifted their schedules have seen significant ridership in response to changing travel and commute patterns resulting from the COVID-19 Pandemic.
- We can accommodate a steady growth in ridership without having to expand our station platforms soon.

Since the start of 2024, the project team has shared your feedback and our technical analysis across the agency, with policymakers along the S Line corridor, and with Sound Transit’s System Expansion Committee.
The results of this effort are clear:
- There is widespread public support for Sound Transit to explore changes to Sounder that better align with the public’s needs and wishes.
- Government officials, elected leaders, and transportation partners responded positively to the findings and proposals established by the Sounder project team.
- The Sound Transit Board has given the green light to start discussions with BNSF Railway on the feasibility of adding roundtrips sooner.
With this broad support, Sound Transit can begin exploring changes to the S Line.
Introducing the Tacoma Dome Access Improvements Project
The Tacoma Dome Access Improvements (TDAI) is a Sound Transit 2 project that dedicates funding to improve access to the Tacoma Dome Station. The options include a surface parking lot with up to 300 stalls or a flexible approach to improve rider access through pedestrian, bicycle, or other non-motorized improvement options, possibly both. Learn more about the potential TDAI projects and share your feedback via the online open house by Oct. 11!
