Extra! Extra! Read about Stride’s time at the libraries!
What did the librarian say to the person checking out 50 books? “Don’t overdue it.”
Sorry for the pun, we couldn’t leave it shelved after our recent visit to libraries in Bothell, Kenmore, and Lake Forest Park. A huge thank you to the King County Library System for hosting us! During our time at the libraries, parents and kids learned what high-capacity transit is. Sound Transit staff helped kids draw and craft their own high-capacity vehicles out of recycled materials. Folks were also able to nerd out on the transit improvements coming to cities along SR 522 and ask the project team questions.
Be on the lookout for Stride making more stops and visits to fairs and festivals later this year!

Do you work, live, or play in Bothell and are interested in transit or naming places? You’re in luck because Stride is holding a workshop to develop potential names for the future Stride station at the SR 522 and I-405 interchange. This station is unique because it’s where the Stride S2 and S3 Lines meet. We want to make sure the future station name is intuitive, geographically helpful, memorable, and reflects the community of Bothell and riders’ needs.
The station naming workshop will be held at the Bothell Library on April 15, from 4-6 p.m., with a meal provided. Please let us know if you’re interested! Participants will participate in an exercise where they will develop potential station names for the SR 522 and I-405 interchange station and review and provide feedback on the proposed name for the station. While not an activity for kids, you are more than welcome to bring yours. Please let us know if you are planning to bring your kids, so we can have enough food and refreshments for everyone.

The City of Shoreline’s 145th Street Corridor Project is ramping up with big changes coming to the 145th Street corridor. A seven-month closure of N 145th St between 1st Avenue N and Interstate 5 began on Monday, April 1. Contractor crews working for the City of Shoreline and its partners will implement a seven-month closure of N 145th St (SR 523) between 1st Avenue NE and I-5. The I-5 interchange will remain open throughout construction; however, the traffic on the overpass will be reduced to one lane in each direction. The closure allows construction crews to install, build and/or relocate critical utility infrastructure to accommodate construction of the new roundabouts. This section of the street will remain closed until fall 2024.
WSDOT’s I-405/Brickyard to SR 527 Improvements Project will start major construction in April. This project will enhance four and a half miles of highway and roadway, focusing on improving transportation mobility and reliability throughout the region. One key improvement included in this project is the connections to regional transit service at both the UW Bothell Station (SR 522) and the park and ride at Canyon Park (SR 527). The project will also add a new transit-only Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) station to connect to Sound Transit’s Stride BRT service along the I-405 corridor and improved connections to the existing park and ride. Some pre-construction work has already taken place. Initial construction activities will include:
-
Temporary lane closures on eastbound and westbound SR 522 through the weekend of April 12 and April 19. Signs and detours will be in place.
-
The speed limit on SR 522 changes to 35 MPH permanently for a half mile stretch in both directions at the I-405 interchange. This change will go into effect mid-April.
-
Temporary lane shifts will go into place later in April to create space for crews to work safely on the roadway improvements and conduct work on the shoulders and center median.
The new Swift Orange Line has arrived! Orange Line joins the Blue and Green Lines in the Swift bus rapid transit (BRT) network that serves Snohomish County. Orange Line will run through Lynnwood on an east-west route between McCollum Park and Edmonds College.
Watch for future project updates. Forward this email to your friends, family, neighbors, and people in your community and encourage them to subscribe.
