Passengers at Sumner Station

Construction timing update
New garage construction at Sumner Station is expected to start later this year, reducing parking significantly until the projected completion date of early 2026.
Sound Transit knows passengers are eager for a specific construction start date. Unfortunately, we cannot give an exact date as we continue to work through the permitting process with the City of Sumner. We expect to know about two weeks before the major parking reduction and will communicate with passengers at that time.
As a reminder, passengers will have several options to get to a Sounder station during the parking reduction:
- Drive to Puyallup Station (3 miles from Sumner Station with over 1,000 stalls).
- Use the Bonney Lake Park-and-Ride (5 miles from Sumner Station with 356 stalls) and take the ST Express 596 to Sumner. We are aware that the 596 bus does not currently serve the 7:38 a.m. or 10:38 a.m. Sounder trains. This is due to the national shortage of bus drivers. We hope to restore these trips as soon as we can.
- Sign up for a carpool permit. Go to the online parking permit portal and give your contact information and ORCA card numbers for each carpool member.
-
Bike to the station and use either the new BikeLink lockers ($0.05/hour) or take your bike on board.
- Walk to the station.
- Get dropped off and picked up. We’ll provide more detailed maps for pick-up and drop-off locations before the parking reduction begins.
