Passengers at Sumner Station.
On January 26, the Sound Transit Board of Directors selected Harbor Pacific Contractors of Woodinville as the design-build team for final design and construction of the Sumner Station garage. The 600-stall garage will be located at the station’s surface parking lot and is expected to open in early 2026.
We will hold a public open house in the coming months to share final design updates with the community and preview construction activities, which will begin later in the year. We will also share strategies for accommodating passengers while parking is reduced at the station.
Already completed are significant improvements for pedestrians and bicyclists in Sumner. This includes sidewalk and lighting improvements in the station area and a new sidewalk and multi-use path on the Traffic Avenue/ SR 410 interchange. This work was completed by the City of Sumner with approximately $7.5 million in funding from Sound Transit.
Sumner’s new shuttle, the Commuter Connector.
Do you work in Sumner’s industrial area? A new shuttle service may be for you! The City of Sumner launched the Commuter Connector earlier this month to give workers a direct connection from Sumner Station.
The Connector meets Sounder trains and runs every 20 minutes when Sounder is running. It then drops employees off at their worksite and brings them back to the station again when it is time to return home.
If you’re an employee or business in the industrial area, visit the City of Sumner website to learn more and sign up.
Last fall, Sound Transit restored two Sounder S Line weekday trips:
- Southbound: 8:32am departure from Sumner - reaches Tacoma at 8:52am.
- Northbound: 10:38am departure from Sumner - reaches Seattle at 11:22am.
Whether you are traveling for work, appointments or fun, Sounder provides a great alternative to sitting in traffic.
Concerned about finding a parking space at Sumner Station? While the lot has been filling early mid-week (Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays), it has been less full on Mondays or Fridays the last several months.
Sounder not running when you need to head to Seattle? Try ST Express 578 – catch it at Sumner Station and arrive in downtown Seattle in about 70 minutes.
