Sound Transit is excited to announce the next phase of construction on the Mercer Island Transit Interchange project. Starting Friday October 7th, 2022, road work will be shifting from the north side of North Mercer Way to the south side of North Mercer Way. This lane shift will allow crews to complete the roundabout construction while keeping the road open for the public. With this change, the I-90 trail along North Mercer Way will be open to thru-traffic.
What this means for road traffic:
- There will be no changes to the flow of traffic
- Road traffic will use the recently constructed northern lanes of North Mercer Way
- The intersection at 77th Ave North and North Mercer Way will continue the use of the traffic light
What this means for pedestrians:
- Pedestrians will be able to access the I-90 trail along North Mercer Way in its entirety
- The cut through at the intersection of 77th Ave North will be accessible to all pedestrians and bikers
- The southern sidewalk along North Mercer Way will be closed. A short detour (as depicted below) will be required.
