King Street Station

Your input will inform next steps for improvements

This spring we asked for your feedback on proposed improvements at King Street Station, including a longer platform, adding more stairs and elevators, and a concourse above the platform. Through an online open house and station drop-in sessions, we heard from more than 230 people. Thank you to everyone who participated!

A majority of the comments were supportive of the proposed improvements (more than 70% for each potential improvement). Common themes included support for longer trains or more capacity, support for reduced crowding and better passenger flow, and requests for better connections to destinations, including light rail. We will use this feedback as we continue to study and refine potential improvements at King Street Station.

Read the full outreach summary. There is also a Frequently Asked Questions section on pages 11-12 of the summary with our responses to common questions we heard during the engagement period.

The King Street Station Platform Area Improvements project is one part of the Sounder South Capacity Expansion program, approved by voters in 2016 to help improve the passenger experience on Sounder and allow us to serve more riders. Other improvements could include longer trains and additional weekday trips.

Weekend Sounder trains – not just for sports fans

Want to take your kids to the Seattle Aquarium or an out-of-town guest to Pike Place Market? Driving to Seattle can be a mess on weekends, not to mention the cost of parking. But there is another way. Sound Transit runs trains to many weekend day games when the Mariners, Sounders FC or Seahawks are in town. You don’t have to attend the game to ride the train – take the opportunity to explore Seattle for a few hours!

Upcoming game trains:

  • Aug 28: Mariners vs. Cleveland Guardians
  • Sep 10: Sounders FC vs Sporting Kansas City
  • Sep 25: Seahawks vs Atlanta Falcons
