Approved map of planned construction of the Mercer Island Transit Interchange
Sound Transit’s contractor will begin preliminary construction activities on the Mercer Island Transit Interchange as soon as Feb. 28, 2022. The project area is located near the Mercer Island Light Rail Station, along North Mercer Way, 77th Avenue SE and 80th Avenue SE. This vital connection area will bring together pedestrians, cyclists, light rail passengers and bus riders to help more people get to more places when East Link light rail service begins in 2023.
Early activities will include site preparations, installation of environmental protection, site clearing and grading and the installation of temporary retaining shoring walls. Construction is expected to take a year and will include the following improvements:
- New roundabout
- Path improvements
- Improved crosswalk
- Bus shelters
- Road improvements
- New lighting
- New Landscaping
Sound Transit is committed to improving the transit system of the Puget Sound with as limited an impact on the community as possible. As construction moves forward, we will be sure to provide traffic and safety updates.
