| Happy (almost) Halloween! Throughout the month of October, we have had the opportunity to announce some transit-oriented development milestones, celebrate people with Diverse Abilities and take our readers on a tour of the East Link Extension. As we head into November, don't forget to wear a mask, wash your hands and vote!
Construction is humming along on the East Link Extension, and our photographer took advantage of the gorgeous weather last month to take a bunch of fresh pics showing the progress. These stations are really taking shape!
Voting is one of the most important things you can do to to participate in our democracy, and you don't have to wait until Election Day (Nov. 3) to hand in your ballot. Check out our blog for a list of transit-accessible ballot drop boxes around the region.
Last week, the Sound Transit Board approved next steps towards affordable home ownership development in the Rainier Valley, while preserving the opportunity for a new Youth Achievement Center near the Columbia City light rail station.
This year marks the 75th observance of National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM). Read about how Sound Transit's Marti Louther became an advocate for people with Diverse Abilities and supported employment.
Good news! After making improvements to the escalators at University of Washington Station, they have exceeded our standard level of performance for well over a year. Sound Transit will not have to replace the escalators at this time, and can reallocate the resources to other vertical conveyances in need of a lift.
As construction of the new Link light rail Operations and Maintenance Facility – East (OMF East) in Bellevue nears completion, another exciting phase of the project is getting started. We are entering into negotiations with BRIDGE Housing and its partners to develop almost seven acres of transit-oriented development adjacent to the facility.
Don’t forget to follow us on Instagram for more great pictures from all the Sound Transit places you love. We’re @SoundTransit and hope to see you there!
