Service change: All tunnel buses to transition to surface streets March 23

Starting March 23, buses will no longer operate in downtown tunnel stations and will instead travel on surface streets through downtown Seattle. Route 550 will travel inbound on Fourth Avenue and Pike Street, and outbound on Union Street and Second Avenue. Eastbound riders currently boarding at International District Station will board at Second Ave Extension South & Yesler Way.

Metro routes 41, 74, 101, 102, 150 and 255 will also have new routings. Visit here for more info.

Additional major service changes

  • Route 513 will extend to Seaway Transit Center and connect to Community Transit's Swift Green Line. The route will serve a new stop at Casino Road and Evergreen Way, which will replace the current stop at Evergreen Way and 79th Place. All other stops will remain the same.
  • Route 542 will add additional evening and weekend service between Redmond and the U District in preparation for the closure of the Montlake Freeway Station, which is scheduled to close as early as June 2019.
  • Route 555 will only operate between Northgate and Bellevue starting on March 25. Sound Transit will invest resources into improving reliability on Route 554. Riders can use King County Metro Route 271 between Issaquah, Eastgate and Bellevue or routes 240 or 241 between Bellevue and Eastgate.
  • Route 580 will run fewer trips to Lakewood beginning March 25, focusing resources on the high-ridership segment between Puyallup Station and South Hill Park and Ride.

In addition to these major changes, Sound Transit is making additional minor service adjustments to several other ST Express routes. Visit soundtransit.org/servicechange for more info.

New Edmonds and Mukilteo Station parking options

We know it can be hard to find a parking space to ride Sounder. That is why Sound Transit will be providing a new choice for riders who can't reach the station before the lot typically fills. Beginning in April, Mukilteo Station will have up to 31 parking spaces and Edmonds will have up to 78 parking spaces reserved for permit holders arriving between 4-8 a.m. Other station parking will remain open on a first-come, first-serve basis, as will any unused permit spaces after 8 a.m., and on holidays and weekends.

Carpool permits will be free for groups of two or more riders who carpool to the station at least 12 times per month. Single Occupant Vehicle permits will be available for a standard monthly fee of $90, with a discounted rate of $30 per month for riders who are eligible for ORCA Lift reduced fares.

For more information or a permit visit, our permit parking webpage or contact us at 1-888-889-6368, or parking@soundtransit.org. Visit our Orca Lift webpage to see if you qualify for a reduced parking permit.

We need your input: With funding approved by voters in 2016, Sound Transit is planning for improved station access at Edmonds and Mukilteo stations. Options include additional parking; better walking, biking and local transit connections; and convenient pickup and drop-off areas. Tired of searching for parking? Check local bus connections to and from the Mukilteo Sounder station. For routes, schedules and trip planner, visit communitytransit.org and everetttransit.org.

Take transit to Mariners, Sounders FC and Storm games.

Ride Sound Transit to the game this spring

Spring sports are just around the corner! The Mariners begin playing in March and Sound Transit's first special Sounder Game Train will serve the Sunday, March 31 game against the Boston Red Sox. The Sounders FC are already playing and will have their first dedicated Sounder Game Train Saturday, April 13. New this season, Sound Transit will provide a Game Train for the Seattle Storm home opener on May 25 at Angel of the Winds Arena in Everett.

In addition to special Sounder Game Trains throughout the seasons, fans can ride Link light rail to Mariners games at T-Mobile Park, Sounders FC matches at CenturyLink Field and Seattle Storm games at Alaska Airlines Arena at the University of Washington. ST Express buses also serve the stadiums from all over the region.

Fans with the best game day experiences plan their route, payment and trip to nearest station ahead of time. Sound Transit's online trip planner will help find your best transit route from door to door. The Transit GO Ticket App or pre-loaded ORCA card is the ideal option for skipping lines at ticket vending machines. And if rail is your preferred route, free parking is available at all Sounder stations as well as Angle Lake and Tukwila International Boulevard Link light rail stations.

Transit Tips: Simple steps for a better trip

We know you've experienced it—one rider wearing a backpack taking up enough room for two; riders clogging the door areas when there's room at the ends and center of the trains; and the person who just can't wait for their phone call (and talks loud enough for everyone else to hear).

If we can all follow a few simple rules for riding, we'll have a better trip.
This month, we are focusing on cellphones.

To the cellphone talker. We get that this is a really important call, but other riders would love it if you talked quietly or saved your call for later.

Text security for non-emergency issues on transit.

Something fishy on your ride? Text us ASAP

Did you know you can text Sound Transit security officers? The text line is monitored 24/7 by security officers who can quickly direct help to your location, even if it's a moving train. Here are a few tips to help us help you as fast as possible.

If it's an emergency, call 911 — always.

Let Security know ASAP if there is anything happening that's making you or your fellow riders feel uncomfortable or unsafe.

Call or text Sound Transit Security at (206) 398-5268. You can also email the security desk at security@soundtransit.org.

Important details to include in text

  • If you're on a Link light rail train, include the car number of the train you are riding in. The car number will be located high on the walls at either end of the train. You can also find it on the outside of the train on the front of the car.
  • Include what direction you're headed in and the closest stop.
  • Describe what is happening.

Keeping everyone safe and secure is something we take very seriously. You can help by staying aware and by looking out for each other. Visit our Safety and Security page to learn more.

Spotlight on Lynnwood Link construction begins soon

The Lynnwood Link Extension project is preparing to begin construction in spring 2019, with work starting in Seattle and Shoreline. This is a major milestone to bringing light rail to north Seattle, Shoreline, Mountlake Terrace and Lynnwood by 2024!

As Sound Transit prepares for the start of construction this spring, expect to see the following along the 8.5 mile route:

  • Demolition of select structures along the corridor
  • Relocation of utilities
  • Clearing and grading to prepare for construction of light rail infrastructure
  • Closure of the North Jackson Park-and-Ride in Shoreline as early as March 27

One of the most frequently asked questions from the community has been about Sound Transit's tree replacement program along the alignment. Learn more about why trees must be removed, as well as the plan to replace them with more than four times the number of trees that are being removed.

As the project moves toward construction, alerts and updates will be available specific to where you live. Sign up for project updates and alerts or update your subscriber preferences today to receive area-specific updates that will include advanced notice of new construction activities and more.

North Jackson Park-and-Ride lot closure

The North Jackson Park-and-Ride lot is expected to close March 27 as Sound Transit begins to build the Shoreline South/145th Station. Construction of the Shoreline South/145th Station will include a parking garage with approximately 500 new spaces.

The North Jackson park-and-ride will remain closed until the completion of Lynnwood Link Extension. Sound Transit will open new temporary park-and-ride lots at both Shoreline Unitarian Universalist Church and at Phillippi Presbyterian Church. The North Jackson Park-and-Ride location will become the new 145th Station upon completion of the project. See map above for more details.
