Everett Chamber of Commerce Q&A
I recently had the wonderful opportunity to meet with the Everett Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors. The event was intimate and was a great opportunity to meet with local leaders and talk about the future of Snohomish County and how we can continue to work to be a business-friendly community. I greatly appreciate the opportunity to meet with local leaders who are working hard to foster a welcoming and collaborative environment for our businesses.

Last month, I had an opportunity to speak with members of the Mountlake Terrace Chamber of Commerce. The conversation covered topics such as the Snohomish County budget, housing, and support for local businesses. The Mountlake Chamber of Commerce is an incredibly engaged group of business owners, and I'm thankful for the conversations we were able to engage in. You can read more coverage about the event here. Special thanks to Justin Nygard for putting together the meeting, Shahi Tandoor & Grill for providing the event space and light bites, and Nick Ng for his excellent write-up on the event. I look forward to more opportunities to work together!
VOA Pallet Shelter Ribbon Cutting
I was invited to attend the VOA Pallet Shelter ribbon cutting event in Everett. The pallet shelters offer a dignified and safe approach to housing our most vulnerable community members. Pallet shelters are small, durable, climate-controlled units surrounded by a community of providers and wrap around services. This site is unique and especially impactful because the housing is dedicated to mothers and their children. Projects like this one are truly about creating pathways to recovery and long-term success for families. I'm incredibly grateful to everyone who made these units possible.
Fernwood Elementary Science Fair
During the month of April, I had the great honor to be a guest judge at the Fernwood Elementary Science Fair. Alongside other incredible community leaders, we deliberated and scored various science fair projects and ideas presented by the students. My group's winner was a third grader who was inspired to experiment with acid rain and use her project to advocate for a cleaner environment! I was inspired by all of the student's project and their eagerness to learn and present on their projects. The future is bright with students like those at Fernwood Elementary!

Last week, the County Council hosted the first ever Legislative Page Program. Throughout the week, 10 local high school students joined the office of the County Council to get a firsthand look at their local government. Students met with department leaders, observed a criminal trial, spent a full day shadowing their respective councilmembers, and spent the entire week researching, drafting, and presenting their very own county ordinances. This program is particularly special for me, as I stared my own journey in public service as a Legislative intern in the state capital. Having the opportunity to create opportunities for future leaders is an incredibly important part of my role as a local leader, and I'm honored to have students who are engaged and willing to learn!
A huge thank you to council staff, the independent electeds, and department leaders who participated and helped facilitate this event - there's no chance we could've done this program without your support!
