The First Annual Snohomish County Family Day on the County Campus
Earlier last month, departments from Snohomish County government hosted a family day on campus where families could come learn about the work that different departments conduct throughout the county government. The day was filled with interactive games, connection, and lots of smiles!
The first annual countywide family day was created to highlight the work that Snohomish County does to serve our communities. I had a great time learning about other county departments, sharing the meaningful work that the County Council does, and getting a pie to the face from our carnival game winner.
A huge thank you to staff who helped make this day fun for everyone!
Quarterly Leadership Update - The City of Mill Creek
Last week, I had the pleasure of meeting with City Manager, Martin Yamamoto, from the City of Mill Creek. Martin and I talked about opportunities to work together, including a partnership between the City and the County to clean up graffiti in the Mill Creek area. We have staff from Snohomish County and the City of Mill Creek exploring potential options for a partnership program. Stay tuned for updates in a future newsletter! The City of Mill Creek is doing great work on behalf of our constituents and I'm thankful for their leadership.
Little Wings Learning Academy Groundbreaking Ceremony
Earlier in July, the Machinist's Institute broke ground on a new early learning facility, Little Wings Learning Academy. This facility will be built near the Machinist's Institute near Airport Road in Everett. The facility will primarily serve the aerospace workforce. The goal is to meet the needs of the workforce in the area by offering child care during non-standard hours. The project is currently underway which includes a renovation of an existing building on-site. Once operational, the facility will add 98 licensed slots. I'm very excited for this addition to our early learning community to support our highly-skilled labor workforce.

Snohomish County Cooling Centers
Snohomish County offers free spaces for families to cool off during extreme heat events. Throughout Snohomish County, there are 28 cooling centers for families to visit. Spending time in air-conditioned spaces can help you stay cooler and prevent heat-related illnesses. I've included a link to a map of cooling centers throughout Snohomish County.
Additionally, you should remember the following tips during extreme-heat events:
- Drink water often, regardless of activity levels
- Take frequent breaks during activity
- NEVER leave a child, disabled adult, or pet unattended in a vehicle. When not in use, lock vehicles so children cannot climb inside and become trapped
- Avoid outdoor activities during the hottest parts of the day (usually 3-6 p.m.) and limit sun exposure
- Check frequently on people who are elderly, ill, or may need help
- Stay safe and wear your sunscreen
