2024 Transition Resource Fair!
March 26, 2024, at Cascade High School from 4:00 pm to 8:30 pm
This is a free community event that welcomes individuals with developmental disabilities (ages 12 and older), their families, caregivers, teachers, employees, and other interested community members.
The event will host community agencies and a variety of free workshops that will provide information on services, community connection and access to the people and tools available to help everyone pursue their employment and career goals.

Black Heritage Month is a time to recognize and honor the many people, events, and significant contributions of Black and African American people to our community, nation, and world. More than 25,000 Black and African American people live and work in Snohomish County and make significant contributions to our economy, arts and culture, science, education every day.
Black and African American people with disabilities continue to shape American History. This includes past leaders such as Harriet Tubman, Sojourner Truth, Thomas Wiggins, and Malcom X (to name a few). Currently, leaders such as Olympic Champion Simone Biles, Hip Hop Icon Missy Elliot, Pulitzer-Prize Winning Journalist and Disability Advocate, Clarence Page, along with Clothing Mogul and “Shark Tank” Star, Daymond John. Lunar New year is widely celebrated in China and other Asian countries. Participants honor their ancestors, show love and gratitude, enjoy family time, and serve traditional foods. Deeply rooted in history, it is the most important holiday for billions of people world-wide.

In Snohomish County, more than 117,000 residents identify as Asian American, and many observe Lunar New Year.

Job Foundation engages, connects, and launches efforts earlier for students in their second to last year of Transition (ages 19 to 20 years old) who are eligible with Developmental Disabilities Administration (DDA). This occurs through discovery and the completion of a Job Foundation Report which includes actionable next steps for paid employment.

- Meets the first Wednesday of the month from 6:30 to 7:30 pm via Zoom
- A monthly group that The Arc of Snohomish County facilitates and is a place for young adult self-advocates to discuss topics for successful independent

Transition Clubs
- The Arc of Snohomish County facilitates monthly clubs in partnership with local school districts and community.
- Transition Clubs use the Charting the Life Course Tools and Philosophy in order to teach participants and practice the skills for Self-Determination, Self- Awareness and Self-Advocacy.

An Exciting Opportunity for the Washington State Developmental Disability Employment Community!
- The 2023-2024 Dan Thompson Employment Rallies are coming to Washington State! Please join us to celebrate, share the history of our movement, and work together to define a vision and create a plan to move Employment forward through 2030. Come Rally with us!
- There will be six regional rallies culminating in a statewide gathering. All of the events will be led by people with developmental disabilities and include an online and in-person option for attendees.
- All event materials will be translated into Spanish and Russian.
- CESP recertification CEs and DDA/DSHS Residential CEs have been pre-approved for these events and will be included on your certificate: 5.5 hours for the Regional Events, and 8.5 hours for the Statewide event. For school staff looking for Clock Hours, you will need to reach out to your local school district for approval prior to the event – let us know if you need assistance with this at support@gowise.org

Northwest Access Fund: Navigating SSI Applications
- Bring your questions! Monthly classes are led by a Certified Benefits Planner and provide an overview of the SSI application process.
- Get tips and strategies for the application and redetermination process and leave with a clear idea of the next steps to take.

Transition Supports and Services - Summary for Students, Families and Caregivers
- The Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction developed a resource is to support students and families to learn more about how the Individualized Education Program (IEP) Transition Plan and aligned High School and Beyond Plan (HSBP) support a student to be ready for their goals for post-secondary goals. Employment providers, community members, and other agency providers can benefit in their work with supporting students and families.
