Earlier this week, Executive Somers proposed the 2024 budget for Snohomish County. This budget funds all County operations from January 1, 2024 until December 31, 2024. Now that the Executive has submitted his proposed budget to the Council, they will begin their process of deliberations and public hearings. The Council generally approves a budget by the end of November.
“We have important and exciting work to do,” said Executive Somers. “The 2024 proposed budget reflects our values and priorities, the things we hope to advance on behalf of our residents. For me, those priorities are: improving public safety; saving lives by helping our most vulnerable residents; preserving and protecting our natural resources; ensuring we grow wisely; strengthening our economy; and serving all of our community equitably.”

This week, Snohomish County hosted its first-ever Aerospace and Aviation Career Exploration Day (ACED) at Paine Field. ACED was a day-long field trip for 30 eighth grade students in Snohomish County. The goal of ACED is to expose young learners to aerospace and aviation, hopefully sparking their imagination and curiosity in the field.
Students visited major aerospace employers including Aviation Technical Services (ATS) and ZeroAvia, and then explored hands-on activities at the Future of Flight. This included several Machinists Institute interactive exhibits and other Future of Flight activities, including assembling robots, learning how to fly drones, and learning how to use different aerospace-related machines and technology.

Respiratory viruses tend to spread in fall and winter. Usually, catching one means feeling crummy for a while and recovering at home with rest, fluids, and maybe some over-the-counter medicine.
But even common respiratory illnesses can turn severe. While anyone can become seriously ill, there is higher risk for infants and young children, older adults, and people with underlying health complications. We have lost lives to flu, COVID, and RSV in Snohomish County over the years.
The Snohomish County Health Department put together a summary to help you keep track of which vaccines you need this fall: https://www.snohd.org/Blog.aspx?IID=89#item.
