This week, Executive Somers delivered the annual State of the County address at the Boeing Future of Flight Center at Paine Field. In his address, the Executive discussed progress made and opportunities ahead on key issues including public safety, housing, economic development, and sustainability.
“Snohomish County has opportunities unmatched by other parts of our region, and we will continue to address our challenges with creativity and compassion,” said Executive Somers in his address. “We are at a moment of renewal, where our economy, the safety of our community, and our environment can rebound from the disruptions of the last few years. Snohomish County’s best days are still ahead of us, and I’m very proud to be leading the effort to make sure that happens.”

Today, Executive Somers announced that Snohomish County has awarded a total of $500,000 in federal funds to Korean Community Service Center and The Clearwater School to operate Youth and Family Resource Centers in South County. Resource Centers provide supportive services ranging from public benefit navigation to employment connections and much more.
“The pandemic has been challenging for working families across our county, which means the need for supportive services skyrocketed,” said Executive Somers. “That’s why we’re continuing to invest our federal recovery dollars in Youth and Family Resource Centers. They have a proven positive impact on our most vulnerable communities and create opportunities for families to receive personal assistance from a community-based provider focused on meeting their needs.”
Youth and Family Resource Centers provide a critical point of contact for low income individuals and/or families to address their immediate needs while building connections to additional local services. Anyone interested can find more information here.
After completing a nationwide search, Executive Somers announced the appointment of Joshua Marcy as the permanent Director for Paine Field Airport. Marcy has served as the Interim Director since the departure of Arif Ghouse in February. The appointment requires Snohomish County Council confirmation.
With over 20 years in the aviation industry, Marcy has been at Paine Field since May 2021 and previously served as a Deputy Director. He earned his Accredited Airport Executive (A.A.E.) certification in 2022 from the American Association of Airport Executives (AAAE), putting him in a small and elite group of airport leaders.
“Snohomish County’s Paine Field Airport is the most economically impactful airport in the state, accounting for over 155,000 jobs and nearly $60 billion in yearly economic activity,” said Executive Somers. “We are continually looking at ways to make Paine Field stronger and more diverse. Joshua Marcy is the best person to lead Paine Field as we continue to support the growth and innovation at the heart of our aerospace industry.”
