Public Input Sought for 2024 Comprehensive Plan
Planning and Development Services (PDS) is updating its Comprehensive Plan and there are key opportunities for your input. Snohomish County is working towards a resilient, inclusive, and vibrant future so that all residents can thrive. Help craft a vision statement. Let us know what you would like the county to look like by filling out an online form or emailing the project team directly at 2024Update@snoco.org. Comments will be collected until February 25, 2022.
The Comprehensive Plan is a guideline for the County’s development, and how the Plan is updated could impact you and your community’s daily lives. From encouraging the construction or maintenance of sidewalks, to protecting natural areas and ensuring there is affordable housing, the Comprehensive Plan’s goals, objectives, and policies will touch on and need to balance a wide variety of subjects.
PSRC is seeking public comment on revisions to the upcoming project selection process for about $580 million in PSRC funding. The public comment period will run from December 15th until January 5th. In early 2021, an ad hoc task force of PSRC board members was established to review the policy framework for PSRC’s federal transportation funding process in 2022. Among other things, the Project Selection Task Force has made the following recommendations:
- Develop an Equity Pilot Program
- Strengthen criteria for equity and safety and include as stand-alone scoring elements
The Equity Pilot Program would be funded through a set aside of 5% of PSRC’s Federal Highway Administration Surface Transportation Block Grant Program funds. PSRC would work with its Equity Advisory Committee on the development and parameters of this program beginning in July 2022.
Pain Field is extending the online open house and comment period for their Master Plan starting Monday, Dec 13th through 2:00 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 3rd. This extension has no impact on the timeline for the Airport Master Plan process. Paine Field held the first of several online open houses from Nov. 3 - 24th. There were two informational webinars during the open house and there was very good public response. However, very late in the comment period they were notified of a technical problem with the comment function of the open house. This may have resulted in some comments being cut off before they were completed. Please visit the reopened comment form or email your comment directly to the Master Plan team. Send your email with the subject line “Paine Field Master Plan comments” to kristin.banfield@snoco.org.
There are several Cold Weather Shelters that will be activated on nights when the temperatures are expected to drop below freezing. The cold weather shelters are operated by local organizations, volunteer groups, and faith-based organizations committed to helping those who are unsheltered. The cold weather season typically begins in November and can last through March of the following year. There are real time updates available online that show expected weather conditions, what shelters are currently available, other public safety information, and a search tool to find shelter locations. Youth between the ages of 12-17 who are in need of shelter can also call 425-877-5171.
