Protecting what we value

Last month during my budget address, I formally announced the launch of a new Climate Action Advisory Committee.

This committee will provide recommendations that encourage the adoption of policies to protect public health, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, address climate change, and preserve the natural environment in Snohomish County. Our health and way of life depend on us taking meaningful action now to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and to make our local environment more resilient to climate change.

The three primary responsibilities of the new Climate Action Advisory Committee are to advise the county on:

1) The county’s internal sustainable operations action plan and a new countywide climate action plan; 2) Maintaining equity and fairness across the county’s diverse communities regarding environmental protection efforts; and 3) Strategies to engage Snohomish County residents and businesses on sustainability and climate change.

The Committee will include 13 members, including representatives from environmental advocacy groups, local businesses, youth, educational institutions, and under-served community members who may be disproportionally effected by climate change impacts.

For more information on the Climate Action Advisory Committee, please check out our website and the Climate Action Advisory Committee Overview document.
